Emergency Life Support Community Event

< Back to Whats On

Please note: This event is in the past and is available as a reference only.

Would you know how to help someone in cardiac arrest?

Chequer Mead Theatre are proud to be supporting a Basic Life Support Training session, run by Steve Morris, founder of Survival can be Shocking.

Apart from calling the emergency services, would you know what to do in case of a heart attack or Sudden Cardiac Arrest that could follow?

Since his Cardiac Arrest in 2015, at the Kings Centre gym, Steve has tirelessly campaigned to raise awareness of the importance of knowing what to do if a person suffers a cardiac arrest. He has also been instrumental in providing a number of public defibrillators in the town. Anecdotally he is known as the defib man! He has provided CPR/AED awareness sessions for over 1,000 people.

Steve’s life has completely changed in a positive way and has been featured on the BBC, ITV Channel 5 news and St John Ambulance media campaign. He has also been involved with a number of high visibility projects with the London Ambulance Service (LAS). St John Ambulance and Sussex Heart Charity.

The FREE Emergency Life Support event will be held in the main auditorium, socially distanced for approx. 1 1/2 hrs. Face masks are required for this event.

It will provide people with basic information and confidence, to recognise someone who may have suffered a cardiac arrest and gives advice on all aspects of defibrillator provision.

The session will look at:

- Difference between a Heart Attack and a Cardiac Arrest
- Signs and symptoms
- Statistics
- Defibrillators (where is local one/who would use it?)
- Chain of survival
- Dealing with a collapsed casualty
- Order of response
- Demo and hands-on time after the session

Recommended for anyone over the age of 12 (parent/guardian consent and accompanied for up to 18 years old) and aimed at people with no previous knowledge of the subject.

Book your FREE place today (maximum 2 tickets per booking), if more seats are required to sit in the same bubble please contact the Box Office on 01342 302000.

Please note face masks will be required for this event and social distancing in the auditorium with other COVID precautions are in place.
