Theatrical Niche presents...
Uncle Vanya

< Back to Whats On

Chekhov's tragicomedy in a bittersweet, multi-disciplinary new adaptation. Isolated and seemingly beyond help, the weary inhabitants of one country household plunge head over heels in lust when a beautiful stranger arrives.

As the owner announces the estate sale for his own gain, the strains of repression and a chaste rural life begin to bubble among the hard-working occupants, until Vanya himself hits a palpable boiling point.

Theatrical Niche's acclaimed physical theatre team collaborate with international artist Lily Hunter Green, creating a unique showcase of art intertwined with this Russian masterpiece of desperation and the undeniable need for affection, at all costs.

An unmissable production of Chekhov's witty observations on the irrational human heart. The utter bedlam underlying these characters is brought to bear in captivating physical theatre. This modern take on 'Uncle Vanya' highlights the farcical nature of the text whilst showcasing some of London's finest talent.

Director Nadia Papachronopoulou and Artist Lily Hunter Green infuse this production with an examination of contagion and the 'Hive Mind'. The violent spread of discontent onstage mirrors the decline of the Bee. Art & Physical Theatre draw parallels between the hapless protagonists and our neglected countryside population: what happens when you don't look after the workers?
