Chequer Mead relies on the contribution of our loyal team of volunteers. The theatre currently has over 120 volunteers who help on a daily basis in a variety of roles. Full training and support is given to each volunteer to ensure their time at Chequer Mead is enjoyable.
Volunteers currently assist the running of the theatre in the following ways:
Stewards assist our patrons when they arrive at our main auditorium. Stewards are asked to check tickets, show customer’s to their seats, assist in their enquiries and ensure their safety during their visit to the theatre. Occasionally stewards also assist in the selling of programmes and merchandise.
Our bar staff serve drinks, confectionary and other items sold in our Pavilion Bar to customers before a show, during the interval and on occasion after the show. Our volunteers also take interval drinks orders and prepare them during the show.
Box Office Clerks
Working alongside the centre’s staff in the main office, the Box Office volunteers carry out counter and phone sales for theatre tickets using the theatre’s computerised Box Office system. They are expected to handle cash, cheques and card payments, full training is given and volunteer staff are supervised at all times.
Some of our volunteers also like to help with the promotion and marketing of Chequer Mead. This includes visiting our many display boards to update them with upcoming shows and events, as well as helping with brochure and flyer distribution.
As well as contributing a vital role to the running of Chequer Mead, volunteers are part of a vibrant social scene at the centre which includes regular coffee mornings, social events and trips.
