Blog: Modifying Humans with Professor Winston

Thursday 27th October 2016 @ 11:37am by Alex
Categories: Hot Stuff, Shows, Productions and Events

Professor Robert Winston returns to Chequer Mead on Tuesday 1st November for his fascinating talk on genetics, the huge advance in gene technology and how history shows how obsessed we humans are, with our genes.

He will delve into discussions about IVF treatments- meaning hopeless sterility is almost a thing of the past, help 65 year-olds to conceive, store eggs and embryos in the deep freeze for several hundred years, and screen embryos for serious genetic disorders before a pregnancy has even really begun. Professor Winston asks the questions many of us want to know...will ethical considerations prevent us from the next step - manufacturing stronger, more gifted and very intelligent children?  Or will our imperfect knowledge of how our abilities are inherited mean that they there are some major surprises in store?

A truly warm and relatable speaker.  Don't miss this talk!
